We are excited to invite you to this year’s Lone Star Region NMRA Regional Convention, to be held May 29th thru June 2nd in Dallas/Fort Worth.
How to Register
We have intentionally kept registration fees as low as possible this year! Primary registration is only $79.00 if received by April 15th. Even more special, we have lowered the registration for “Non Rail Spouse/Children” to $59.00 if received by April 15th. Register today and $AVE !
You have two options on how to register for the Convention. First, go to the tab labeled “Register”. There you may print a downloadable version of the registration form, complete it and send it in along with your payment just as you have always done in the past.
Or, This year you may use the new online registration option. Just enter the required information along with your selection of the various tours, operating sessions, extra banquet and breakfast tickets, commemorative decal sets, shirts and hats. Once your done you may submit and then either send in a check or pay via “Pay Pal”.
For those who wish, you have the option to create an “account” that will allow you to review your registration at a later date.

Not only will the “The Lone Star Express 2013” have many of the traditional convention events you’ve enjoyed in the past, but his year we have added a few new ones ! For example:

You will have upwards of 52 Clinics to choose from during the three and half day convention. Clinicians will include:
• Chuck Lind, MMR on “Stud Wall Benchwork”
• Steve Amitrano on “Weathering your engines”
• Don Winn on “Making turnouts with Fast Tracks jigs”
• Duane Richardson, MMR on Laser Cut Structures
• Art Houston on JMRI Operations Program
There will be “Operations” and more “Operations” where you will have the chance to operate on some of the finest layouts in North Texas! And new this year…If you have never operated before, we are making a special effort to teach you “just how-to–do-it” via “Specialized Beginner’s Clinics”. Here you will get “actual hands-on-operation-experience with the best”, and it will all happen at the hotel in our “ Convention Layout Room”, a new feature this year.
A number of layouts in the Dallas Fort Worth area will be open for you to visit. Folks have the option of using their GPS to drive themselves to specific layouts of interest. And for those who wish to “Leave the Driving to Us”, take advantage of our Super Tours to either Dallas, Fort Worth or do both!

Non Rail Activities
Highlights include a tour of the magnificent…“Fort Worth Botanical Gardens”. Back by popular demand will be a repeat visit to the “Delaney Vineyard”.
Commemorative Decals !
The “Lone Star Express 2013 Convention” will honor both the Southside Model Railroad Club and the Texas Western Railroad Club with a “two fer” set of decals. Both groups are 100% NMRA and are long-standing groups with great layouts to their credit! Decals must be pre ordered and will be offered in N, HO, S and O scales.
Super Raffle Prizes!
Prior to the Lone Star Express 2013 Awards Banquet join us for a Social Time with a Raffle for Door Prizes featuring our own Larry Swigert! Prizes will include a number of “must have” items including a Brass Shay donated by local Modeler, Bart Bartholomew
A very special highlights of your “Lone Star Express 2013” experience this year will be an evening with your guest speaker, Allen C. Harper, Chairman and CEO of “American Heritage Railways” during your Saturday Evening Lone Star Express 2013 Awards Banquet. If you’ve never ridden on the “Durango & Silverton Railroad” or the “Great Smoky Mountain Railroad”, you will certainly want to after hearing Mr. Harper speak about his passion for these rail operations.
